    Give Me Advice ITT

Post by Dark Flame99966 on Sat Mar 29, 2014 3:37 pm

Ayo brehs so I got into college, got 2 options:

    1. Princeton. That's right, I got into Princeton. Still waiting on them to tell me they didn't mean to accept me.

    2. Full ride and guaranteed admission to med school at UConn.

    I can't decide.

If you're doing medicine, you should probably go for the cheaper one unless you want to be a professor, in which case you should go for Princeton. If you're doing something where connections and all that are important then definitely Princeton. Congrats on getting in!

Congrats on your acceptance to Princeton.

My advice is the same one that I wrote to my friend yesterday:

...my advice to you, as a 3rd year college student, is if you're planning on going to grad school, then go to the school that you have to pay the least for. If you're planning on ending your educational life with undergrad, then go to the school with the best name/prestige school that you can go to, even if it's expensive. Reason: When you go to get a job, they will always ask for your highest degree. if you go to grad school, after undergrad, then they won't care about where you got your undergrad degree, or care about it at all. If you aren't going to grad, then you want to make yourself look as good as you can (prestigious school).

I was in your spot, 3 years ago, and I know the impulse is to go to the best name school, even if you're going to grad later and it'll be expensive...but you have to think logically about it.

I can't decide for you. That's really as far as I can tell you. But you don't want debt if it's not necessary (going to go to grad school anyways...they'll only ask for your highest degree...your undergrad degree becomes obsolete if you go to grad school)...good luck bro.

I've got until May 1 to decide.

And Princeton has more than just a degree by attending. It has an amazing alumni network after, and the best resources in the country to do research

It does indeed. That's why I said it really depends on what you want.

if you're going to business, then Princeton is fantastic! If you're going for Research (PhD) then it's incredible! If you're going to Med school/Pharm School/Dental School/Law School after, then those amazing research facilities and networking won't do much for you.
