    Math regents questions

Post by Ahmed on Thu Jan 29, 2009 6:49 pm

I had a few doubts on some questions on the regets today...

1- Bob left his hot coffe on the kitchen table. Which graph shows the relation of temeprature and time on the coffe...

    The top or bottom one?

2-Bob has to pick the number 2 cube out of 8 cubes labeled 1 to 8 from a hat.

What is the chance of him picking the number 2 out of the 9 cubes twice in a row?

1 i would say the second chart because once it hits room temp the speed of the cooling would decrease and i don't think it would hit 0 in under 6 min unless our friend is in Antarctica.

BUt the second one doesnt reach 0 at all...it stops at 62 and goes straight

so 62 would be the room temp, it would no longer be able to drop any more

    Room temperature is 32...not 62.

Also I don't think they would mix scince facts with math...I made it go all the way to 0...

Omg... Sad , I think I did get the coffee question wrong Sad ...it would be frozen at 0...this has more to do with science than math but ...

    Anyone know the second?

    I put:

    1
    --
    64

you mean twice out of eight cubes right? I think it is (1/Cool times (1/Cool so 1/64.

and I agree that the answer to number one is the bottom one...too bad Ahmed...was it a Math A regent?

exactly, the function, at the top, only touches the vertical line once so it passes the vertical line test!

Exactly, so doesn't that make the top one the function and not the bottom?

    Re: Math regents questions

you mean the perimeter of the shape?

    If so it's (11+13+13) + (1/2*2π r)
the radius would be half of 11 ... since 11 is the diameter of the circle ... so your final answer should be:

    54.27

Unless the question is about something totally different Very Happy

    Nope, that's what I did.

Also FYI, there was no point in findig out the radius since "2r" is the same as "d"-which stands for diameter.
